Overview

Barcelona is an excellent place to start and end your cruise from. A relatively quick flight from just over two hours delivers you to this wonderful Catalunya city full off fun, sights and delights - there is even a great beach too. Everything centres around Las Ramblas a wide treelined avenue which runs from the Christopher Columbus statue at the gateway to the cruise port all the way up to the Place de Catalunya. Off to the right-hand side is is the unfinished and eye-catching draw of the city The Sagrada Familia Cathedral. Off to the left-hand side of Catalunya Square is the university area which offers a great nightlife scene away from the tourist crowds of Las Ramblas. Sightseeing, beaches, nightlife , shopping and delicious Spanish Tapas - Barcelona has it all.
Relax in Italian style for a seven night cruise to the major ports of the western Mediterranean. Sample the French countryside of Provence from Marseille, explore the birthplace of Christopher Columbus in Genoa, venture out to Pompeii in the shadow of Mount Vesuvius from Naples and discover the history of Malta and Sicily.

Itinerary

  • Fly to Barcelona for an overnight hotel stay.
  • A further overnight hotel stay. The Christopher Columbus Statue marks the entrance to the port and the start of Las Ramblas pedestrian area lined with shops, bars and restaurants where street entertainers keep you entertained. Perhaps visit the famous Sagrada Familia Cathedral which was started in 1882 and is still not complete. Port Aventura theme Park by Universal is situated close by, there is also the Picasso Museum, Gaudi Architecture and the Barcelona FC museum.
  • Make your own way to the nearby cruise port and embark the ship.
  • The oldest city and France filled with elegant shops , bars and restaurants. Visit the Church of Notre Dame with its statue of the Virgin Mary or further afield Avignon and Provence.
  • Genoa is steeped in history and is the gateway to the Italian Riviera including Portofino - just 15 miles away. Genoa is a dense and fascinating medieval warren of alleyways where Christopher Columbus grew up. The rejuvenated Old Port area is has celebrated architecture and a maze of narrow streets clustered around Via Garibaldi. This is a seventeenth century street with lots of museums and gardens to visit. There are also two theatres, an opera house and even the Britannia Pub.
  • Most people head for the ancient Roman ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum in the shadow of Mount Vesuvius or scoot across the bay to the island of Capri.
  • Messina (Sicily) Is situated just three miles from the mainland under the shadow of Mount Etna. Perhaps visit picturesque Taormina with its hilltop Saracen Castle and the Ancient Greek Ampitheatre.
  • Valletta is the tiny capital of the Mediterranean island nation of Malta. The walled city was established in the 1500s on a peninsula by the Knights of St. John, a Roman Catholic order. It-s known for museums, palaces and grand churches. Baroque landmarks include St. John-s Co-Cathedral, whose opulent interior is home to the Caravaggio masterpiece -The Beheading of Saint John.-
  • Relax and make the most of the myriad of facilities available on board the ship, from fantastic entertainment to delicious and diverse dining options.
  • Disembark the ship after breakfast and make your own way to the airport for your flight home.
