New Orleans & Caribbean Escape Cruise

18days from
£2,559*per person

Overview

Take this rare opportunity to enjoy a continuous 14-night Caribbean cruise visiting Panama, Costa Rica, Mexico, Jamaica, Grand Cayman and more. A two-night stay in the Big Easy (New Orleans) for a good dose of southern hospitality, creole cooking and a carefree party vibe will get this wonderful holiday off to a great start. Checkout the nightlife of the buzzing French Quarter where French-style buildings line the streets with colourful wrought iron balconies and the music never stops on Bourbon Street. Ride a streetcar dating back to the 1800's, visit the cathedral at Jackson Square and shop at the beautiful Riverwalk.

Itinerary

  • Fly from the UK to New Orleans for an overnight hotel stay in the French Quarter.
  • A further overnight hotel stay. In New Orleans you will find a flavour of the Old South with a distinct French accent, famed for its filigree wrought-iron work in the French Quarter and Mardi Gras celebrations which herald the beginning of Lent. Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday), is the last day of the Carnival season as it always falls the day before Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. Shop at the beautiful river walk and take a ride on the street car line dating back to 1835. Visit Jackson Square in the heart of the French Quarter where the grey spire of St Louis Cathedral towers high in the air. Bourbon Street is where the music never stops and looks much as it did during the 1700s and 1800s with buildings crowding a narrow sidewalk.
  • Make your own way to the nearby cruise terminal and embark the ship.
  • Relax and make the most of the myriad of facilities available on board the ship, from fantastic entertainment to delicious and diverse dining options.
  • Costa Maya is a small tourist region in Mexico on the border with Belize, which until recently was British Honduras. The area is generally undeveloped but has a large pier with a new and modern tourist shopping mall to accommodate cruise ships. The centre has a central plaza with saltwater pools and 'swim-up' style bars. The nearest village to the cruise port is the fishing village of Mahahual approximately three kilometres away with soft sand beaches, grass thatched palapas, and a coral reef a short distance off-shore called Banco Chinchorro, as well as several bars, restaurants, and shops. Costa Maya is the closest port of access to many of the lesser known Mayan ruins in the Yucatan Peninsula.
  • Norwegian Cruise Lines private island on the second largest barrier reef on the world. A prefect beach BBQ day.
  • Roatan is part of a cluster of island archipelagos situated ten to forty miles off the northern coast of Honduras. Roatan is located in between Utila and Guanaja Islands. These islands are a gem in the western Caribbean, and they are surrounded by the largest barrier reef systemin the Northern hemisphere. The Mesoamerican Barrier Reef is only second in size to Australia's Great Barrier Reef. Roatan is 40 miles long and at its widest its only 5 miles wide. It's a long and narrow island. Roatan's highest point is 900 ft above sea level. Roatan has an east-west orientation, and its northern and southern coastlines are both visible from several points on the island.
  • Relax and make the most of the myriad of facilities available on board the ship, from fantastic entertainment to delicious and diverse dining options.
  • The country's most important port, Puerto Limon was founded in 1870 as a port city to export bananas and grains from Costa Rica to various parts of the globe. One of the oldest cities on the continent, Puerto Limon was established in 1502 when Christopher Columbus landed here during his exploration of the New World. Located in Limon province along the Caribbean coast, Puerto Limon is the provincial capital of Limon and lies some 160 km east of the city of San Jose. Visit the Brava Volcano and the Brauilo Carrillo National Park, the Tortuguero National Park or the Cahuita National Park. Puerto Limon has some unusual surprises such as the Parque Vargas that sits in the east end of town facing the Atlantic Ocean.
  • Colon is a Panamanian city and sea port beside the Caribbean Sea, lying near the Atlantic entrance to the Panama Canal. It is the capital of Panama's Colon Province and has traditionally been known as Panama's second city.
  • Cartagena is a modern port city on Colombia-s Caribbean coast. At its core is the walled Old Town, with 16th-century plazas, cobblestone streets and colourful colonial buildings. With a tropical climate, the city is a popular beach destination. Reachable by boat are the nearby shores of Isla de Bar and Islas del Rosario, known for their coral reefs and scuba diving.
  • Relax and make the most of the myriad of facilities available on board the ship, from fantastic entertainment to delicious and diverse dining options.
  • There are some top attractions on Jamaica - the biggest one being Dunn's River Falls ( close to Ocho Rios) made famous by the James Bond film Dr No. Gentle bamboo rafting on the Martha Brae river made famous by Errol Flynn is exceedingly tranquil and worth doing. Another great trip is horse riding through the sugar cane plantations, on to the beach then swimming on your horse in the sea - absolutely marvellous. Perhaps visit the Blue Mountains and the coffee plantations for a unique souvenir or gift.
  • This island remains part of the British Commonwealth and it is famed its Scuba diving and white sandy beaches - in particular 7 Mile Beach close to Georgetown the capital. It is also one of the few nesting grounds of the logger head turtle. One of the best things to do is snorkelling with the Sting Rays - you will not be disappointed. Try visiting Hell - a village in the far corner of the island where you will find a turtle farm. Ships generally anchor off shore here and the island is reached by tender.
  • This island is just 12 miles long and situated 20 minutes ferry ride from the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. Cozumel is really a staging post for cruise passengers to visit mainland Mexico with its Mayan ruins at Tulum. Cozumel town is lively with its many bars and myriad of shops. Explore the Xel Ha aquatic park with its subterranean rivers, natural pools and sacred Mayan Lagoon. We found the scuba diving here to be the best in the Caribbean. The best beach is located in the Punta Sur Ecological Park.
  • Relax and make the most of the myriad of facilities available on board the ship, from fantastic entertainment to delicious and diverse dining options.
  • Disembark the ship after breakfast and flight home overnight to the UK.
  • Arrive into the UK after your overnight flight from New Orleans for your onward journey home.

Accommodation

Maison Dupuy -

★★★★

This famous historical hotel is located on Rue Toulouse, in the middle of the French Quarter. It lies in one of the traditional courtyards of the district and within just two blocks, guests will find the well-known Bourbon Street. This air-conditioned hotel has a total of 200 rooms spread over five floors of which five are suites. When the Maison Dupuy Hotel was built in 1973, it became the last new hotel constructed in the French Quarter. The colonial-style hotel went out of its way to fit into the historic neighbourhood setting - most notably with its stone-floored, palm-lined courtyard. The hotel's fine restaurant, spa, pool, and sauna make it a favourite of visitors to this vibrant city.
