  • Overnight in port for Lima. Lima, the capital of Peru, is a great metropolis and a gateway to the country. Perhaps visit the historic centre with beautiful colonial architecture which has been declared a Cultural World Heritage Site by UNESCO, some the best museums in Peru and a great variety of cultural folklore shows. The world famous Nazca Lines situated approximately 286 miles from Lima. Here 50 square km of desert floor were covered centuries ago by vast drawings, figures of mammals, insects and deities. They were discovered in 1927 and are the most extraordinary legacy left by the Nazca culture that flourished in 300 BC. The lines are a series of complex designs, some up to 300 meters long, which can only be seen in their true dimension from an altitude of at least 1,500 feet. The Nazca culture is not believed to have been capable of manned flight, yet the question remains as to how they crafted the drawings, what technology they used and what purpose the lines served.
  • Sharing its name with the brandy produced from white muscat grapes in this region, Pisco is an important port 235km south of Lima. Generally used as a base to see the abundant wildlife of the Islas Ballestas and Península de Paracas, the area is also of historical and archaeological interest, having hosted one of the most highly developed pre-Inca civilizations - the Paracas culture from 900 BC until AD 200, after which the nearby town of Paracas is named.

The city offers different possibilities for tourists: enjoy the beach , visit the fishing port , the Third Millennium Cross, Guayacan Church, Los Navegantes Balcony and Punta de Tortuga lighthouse.
  • Santiago is situated approximately 75 miles from San Diego port in Valparaiso and has always had its measured charms - fine dining, perfectly landscaped gardens, a famous seafood market, the stunning backdrop of the Andes - but in the past few years it has undergone a cultural metamorphosis. In celebration of Chile's bicentennial, the city poured millions of pesos into the construction of sleek new cultural centres, thoughtful museums and gorgeous green parks. Santiago may never be as glamorous as Rio or as dynamic as Buenos Aires, but now it's more than a stop-off on the way to Chilean Patagonia or the Atacama. The city of 150,000 people lies at your feet. 850 miles farther south Antarctica begins. Then its on to cruise f through the Strait of Magellan - which is the northernmost route through the tip of South America which takes you past Punta Arenas in Chile and was explored by Ferdinand Magellan in 1520. • The Beagle Channel. is a 150 mile long channel takes you through the Tierra del Fuego Archipelago of islands at the southern tip of South America, past Ushuaia in Argentina. The eastern end of the Channel forms the border between Chile and Argentina whilst the western end is entirely in Chile. It is only three miles wide at its widest point and so can be quite tricky for ships to negotiate. The Beagle Channel was named after the British ship Beagle, in which Charles Darwin explored the area (1833-34). Pay a visit to Ushuaia the southernmost city in the world, where dominating peaks loom on three sides
  • The Drake Passage (Cape Horn) is the body of water between the southern tip of South America at Cape Horn, Chile and the South Shetland Islands of Antarctica. The 500 mile wide passage between Cape Horn and Livingston Island is the shortest crossing from Antarctica to the rest of the world's land. It was named after Sir Francis Drake when his ship, having passed through the Strait of Magellan, was blown far South in September 1578. The Falklands are a compact group of more than 740 Islands, situated approximately 650 kilometres (400 miles) off the south-eastern tip of South America. The total land area is approximately 12,000 square km (4,700 square miles) comprising of mountain ranges and flat plains. The two main Islands are East Falkland and West Falkland. Visit the clifftop museum of Ecocentro which features Patagonian natural exhibits and wonderful views from a lighthouse. Valdes Peninsula is home to penguins and elephant seals, which are preyed on by orcas.

  • This is Uruguay's capital and largest city offering a variety of indoor shopping possibilities (like downtown's appropriately named Montevideo Shopping Centre), and informal markets such as Mercado del Puerto. Perhaps take a walk past the wharfs and piers of the Rambla de Montevideo. Relax on Pocitos beach, visit the Torres Garcia Museum or check out the Palazzo Salvo. New tourist circuits have recently evolved, devoted to famous Argentinians such as Carlos Gardel, Eva Perón and Jorge Luis Borges. Due to the favourable exchange rate, its shopping centres such as Alto Palermo and Galerías Pacífico are frequently visited by tourists. Perhaps visit Avenida del Libertador where you will find many of the city's best-known museums, gardens and cultural points of interest and Avenida de Mayo for its sophisticated buildings of Art Nouveau, Neoclassic and eclectic styles.

This mountainous lush tropical island belonging to the Leeward Island group is approximately 30 miles long by 15 miles wide. The capital Roseau lies in the South Western corner and is very picturesque at the foot of green hills and mountains. Ships usually moor at the quayside and you are right in the heart of the town. The roads here are extremely narrow and steep - but its worth the 1 hour journey to Ti-Tou Gorge where there is a refreshing waterfall amidst the rain forest. On the way back check out the Sulphur Springs and take a photo stop at the Botanical gardens overlooking Roseau and the bay. Not great for beaches. The sail away from Dominica is beautiful - one of the best in the Caribbean.
