Lake Garda Stay & Greek Isles Cruise

Includes a business class rail journey to Venice

13days from
£1,519*per person

Overview

Much loved and celebrated by poets and artists, Lake Garda boasts a jaw-dropping landscape of crystal-clear dark blue water, jagged mountains in the north and vineyards and lemon groves in the south. Explore picturesque towns, thermal bath resorts and an abundance of charming lakeside promenades during your fantastic three nights' stay. Then travel by Business Class rail to Venice for an overnight stay, where you will catch the train to Ravenna to board the Explorer of the Seas® for your seven nights' Greek Isles cruise.

Itinerary

  • Fly from London Gatwick to Verona. Transfer to your Lake Garda hotel for three nights' stay
  • The beautiful lakeside towns around Lake Garda have charmed foreign visitors for centuries. Even before the ancient Romans, the area was a luxury summer destination; in Sirmione and Desenzano you can visit ruins and mosaics that record their presence. Lake Garda is located in the north-east of Italy, dividing the regions of Lombardy, the Veneto and Trentino Alto-Adige. The large lake is long and slim, stretching from north to south. The southern lake-shore is low, rolling land and fairly built-up. In contrast, the dramatic fjord-like northern end is surrounded by towering mountains and cliffs. Most of the lakeside towns are popular as holiday resorts; they differ in character but all are well-connected by boat services.
  • Transfer to Desenzano train station and travel to Venice via business class scenic rail journey. Overnight hotel stay in Mestre.
  • Catch the train to Ravenna, make way to cruise port to embark ship.
  • Well known for its stunning architecture and amazing natural setting, the small town is surrounded by well preserved walls that feature many landmarks making Kotor itself a UNESCO World heritage site.
  • Corfu is the birth place of Prince Philip at the Palace of Mon Repos. The Achilleon Palace is home to the statue of Achilles Heel and was where Kaiser Wilhelm declared World War I. Corfu Town is the largest living medieval town in Greece and an absolute pleasure to walk around, perhaps watch some cricket in the square or sample the excellent local cuisine. Try the local Kumquat liquor or simply watch the world go by with an ice cold frappe..
  • Athens received a make-over for the 2004 Olympics. There is a lot to see here such as the Acropolis, Parthenon, Temple of Poseidon and Athena, Odeon Herodus of Atticus and the Theatre of Dionysos.
  • Mykonos (part of the Cyclades chain of Islands) is also frequently visited by many cruise ships for its Greek charm and upmarket cosmopolitan atmosphere plus there are some excellent beaches too.
  • Argostoli is the capital of Kefalonia and the setting of the film Captain Korellia's Mandolin. Part of the Ioanian Island chain which includes Corfu and Zante situated at the gateway to the Adriatic and just off the coast of Albania. Visit the magnificent Blue Caves at Melissani.
  • Relax and make the most of the myriad of facilities available on board the ship, from fantastic entertainment to delicious and diverse dining options.
  • Disembark the ship in Ravenna and transfer to Bologna airport and fly to UK

Cruise Overview
The second of five in the revolutionary Voyager-class series that started with Voyager of the Seas in 1999, Explorer of the Seas follows the floating resort concept, with a wealth of entertainment, facilities and activities that will appeal to every age group. Some Explorer of the Seas' most exciting attractions are an ice-skating rink/concert venue/TV studio, spa/solarium complex, a shopping/dining/entertainment boulevard, 3D movie theater, and outdoor movie screen. A fitness center, outdoor jogging track and outdoor youth area with a rock-climbing wall, full-court basketball, nine-hole miniature golf and brand new FlowRider Surf Simulator offer active cruisers of all ages, from children to seniors, something to enjoy.
Cabin Details
Each stateroom has private en-suite facilities, air conditioning, flat screen cable TV's with free in-room movies, vanity area, hair dryer, telephone, refrigerator with minibar and free room service.
Dining Details
Open almost around the clock, Windjammer Café offers a great range of dishes from salads to burgers, a carvery, a buffet and hot main dishes. For a cup of coffee and light snack head to the speciality coffee house Latte-tudes or for more formal dining, explore the culinary delights of the Main Dining Room. Enjoy gourmet cuisine and wine pairing in Chef's Table, Italian family favourite at Giovanni's Table, and if grade-A cuts of steak and sumptuous desserts appeals, head to Chops Grille.
Facilities
Designing a huge cruise ship is never easy, but Explorer of the Seas' deck plans are an improved version of Royal Caribbean's older ships. The majority of cabins are located on stateroom-only decks, which allows for quiet nights. The decks that could be more problematic for light sleepers are decks 2, 3 and 6, as they are located below, above or adjacent to loud public spaces that get foot traffic until the wee small hours. Those, and a few aft cabins with obstructed views are the only rooms to avoid on Explorer of the Seas. A clever layout feature of Royal Caribbean's Explorer of the Seas is that restaurants are not all packed into one or two decks but spread out over multiple levels. This keeps crowds at peak times at a minimum - though Explorer of the Seas has a capacity of 4,290 passengers, so expect to share space with a lot of people. 16 elevators help keep a nice flow of guests as well.
